World-leading AI-driven Technology

We help build a detailed picture of each employee's topic expertise through the analysis of a wide range of biographical data and key working documents (email, project reports, etc).

From analysis of millions of individual profiles, we have developed a skill ontology of more than 50,000 topics. We supplement this with each organisation's unique knowledge areas and terms of expertise. This provides a frame by which any employee's expertise can be mapped and described.

Each employee's expertise in each topic is assessed using a proprietary AI-based algorithm developed over 5 years of application. This allows ranked lists of employee expertise to be developed for each topic.

People in the organisation can identify colleagues who have strong expertise in any topic through a simple browser-based search function.

Based on each individual’s knowledge areas, the algorithm also predicts other topics that the person is likely to be knowledgeable about, even if these have not been explicitly identified in their profile. This increases the likelihood of finding required expertise within the organisation.

Our technology can be fully installed behind the company firewall to ensure that all data is secure and contained within the security of the company network.

The Business Case for SkillsAnalytics

Businesses are becoming increasingly data driven, allowing more sophisticated management of assets and operations and achieving higher performance. Massachusetts Institute of Technology estimates that adoption of data driven decision making can increase output and productivity by 5-6%.

But when it comes understanding their most important assets – their people – most companies are operating from incomplete and often out of date information.

SkillsAnalytics offers a path to data-driven people management for companies and other large organisations.

  • Human Resources – Human Capital Management systems are only as good as the data they hold. Our technology will provide detailed and up to date profiles of each individual’s experience and expertise. This allows more informed organisation design decisions and allows employee training and development programs to be much more effectively targeted. This improves efficiency but also supports higher employee satisfaction and through that, retention. The benefits of better employee data can easily approach 3% of revenue for most organisations.
  • Procurement – Most large organisations spend 1-1.5% of revenue on consultants and other professional service firms each year. Our technology will allow you to find employees within the organisation with the skills and expertise to carry out much of this work, at much lower cost. For a typical Fortune 500 firm, the savings available by avoiding unnecessary consulting engagements are in the order of $50 million per annum. No other initiative offers the same potential to reduce the spend in the Professional Services category.
  • Knowledge Management – A recent study found that the average employee spends about 13% of a typical workweek searching or waiting for information that a colleague could provide. And for new employees, who have not established the informal networks by which information flows in most organisations, the percentage is much higher. We provide organisations with a ‘map’ by which employees can quickly find the knowledge and assistance from colleagues that they require. This increases productivity and removes a major source of employee frustration that contributes to higher turnover in an organisation.
  • Finance – The Finance function can play an important role in recognising the various ways in which better understanding of employee’s capabilities and expertise can support improved operational performance. An effective Finance team can help each area of the organisation quantify how they would benefit and synthesise the case for investment in employee expertise mapping.
